Instructions for hikers

LIGHTING FIRE
- Lighting fires is only allowed in the areas designated for them.
- Lighting open fires is always prohibited if there is a forest fire warning.
- If you make a fire, ensure that you also put it out.
- Use firewood sparingly.
DRINKING WATER
- Harju, Bunker Museum, Jermula, Salpa Line Museum and Sihkarinkallio rest areas have water taps.
WASTE
- There is no waste management in the rest areas.
- There is composting equipment for biowaste.
- Only burn burnable waste.
- Take other waste with you.
- Clean up after yourself, and do not litter the environment.
HIKING IN NATURE
- Use marked routes and paths.
- Observe the obligations relating to the freedom to roam.
- Minimise the harm and disturbance caused to nature, other hikers and locals.
BUNKERS AND OTHER FORTIFICATIONS
- The bunkers are not lit and may be in a poor condition.
- There may be deep wells, sharp projections, iron pegs and drops in the bunkers.
- In cave-like bunkers, rock material may easily come loose or fall. Always move very carefully when near bunkers.
- The bunkers and other fortifications are comparable with sites protected under the Antiquities Act – they must not be altered in any way.
- In the museum areas, you must buy a museum ticket if you wish to enter the area.
